YEDID
An ancient Hebrew poem. A modern, moving performance. A sound that lingers.
Listen
Breindy and Matt are a husband-and-wife musical duo known for their distinct blend of emotional honesty, spiritual depth, and unexpected sonic beauty. Their work draws on centuries-old Hebrew texts and infuses them with melody, texture, and feeling that resonates far beyond any one convention.
Yedid, their latest release, is a delicate and haunting interpretation of Yedid Nefesh, a devotional poem written by a 16th-century Kabbalist. Recorded between Johannesburg and Poland, the track features piano, cello, and electric guitar. This unusual combination creates a warm, ethereal soundscape that supports the raw and tender vocal performance at its center.
There is no click track. The tempo breathes. The performance is human, intimate, shifting, and alive.
Breindy’s voice, surrounded by layered harmonies and subtle countermelodies, carries the song with a mix of vulnerability and strength.
Breindy and Matt are Global Music Award winners, ISSA finalists and SAMA (South African Music Award) nominees, and their music continues to find audiences across borders and cultures.
Rooted in tradition but resonating far beyond it, Yedid opens a space for stillness, depth, and connection.
“Yedid is the kind of uplifting, spiritual and inspirational song we can all connect with in these challenging times.”

About Breindy & Matt
The husband-and-wife duo describe their unique brand of hypnotic music as “ancient-Hebrew, indie-alternative”.
Originally from two completely different backgrounds (Breindy - a rabbi's daughter; Matt having grown up in a secular home), the music they make heralds from Jewish roots and Biblical texts, yet takes shape in a sound that is both ethereal and contemporary; experimental and traditional.
Their work has been recognized both locally and internationally. Their Ruth Ave album earned a nomination at the South African Music Awards (SAMAs) for Best Alternative Album in 2019, and in 2020 they received a Global Music Award (bronze medal for Best Album). More recently, their songs Al Tuster (a collaboration with Zulu Maskandi artist, Mbuzeni) and Take Me Back to Woody Cape were honoured with Global Music Awards silver medals in June 2025.
Breindy and Matt live in Johannesburg, South Africa and have 5 kids.
